A little more than a year has passed since our first acquaintance with the ASUS ROG Strix LC 240 RGB LSS, as the line of these coolers has been completely updated to the second iteration. Now we have to consider a system called ROG Strix LC II 280 ARGB in the optimal size of a radiator of 280 mm, equipped with new ARGB fans and a seventh generation Asetek pump.

Packing and scope of delivery
The system is packaged in a beautiful box, decorated in the brand’s signature red and black colors. On the front side there is an image of the product, on the back – its advantages are listed in the form of pictures with text and some technical characteristics are given.
The box opens no less beautifully, creating a feeling of a “premium” purchase. All components are traditionally folded into a form of pressed cardboard that can absorb leaking coolant and wrapped in plastic bags.
The set of system parts, in addition to two fans and a radiator with a water block, includes:
- installation instructions;
- a set of stickers;
- brochure with information about the guarantee;
- ARGB backlight splitter from one + 5VDG connector to four;
- eight long screws for fans;
- 16 short screws for fixing the radiator;
- 16 metal spacers for screws;
- four knurled nuts with a slot for a Phillips screwdriver;
- mounting frame for AMD AM3 and AM4 sockets;
- four screw racks for AMD sockets;
- plastic reinforcement frame for Intel LGA 115x and 1366 sockets;
- four screw racks for Intel LGA 2011 sockets and its analogues;
- four screw racks for Intel LGA 115x and 1366 sockets;
- fan power splitter from one four-pin connector to two;
- Micro-USB cable to connect the pump to the motherboard.
ASUS ROG Strix LC II 280 ARGB is made within the framework of the reference design, typical for systems based on Asetek. The aluminum radiator is almost completely painted black. The pump is connected to the radiator by flexible 380 mm rubber hoses in a nylon sheath. The outer diameter of the tubes is 11 mm, and the inner diameter is about 7 mm.
The two-section radiator has dimensions of 315x143x30 mm. The side slats have two sets of mounting holes for 140mm fans, arranged without a gap. The belt-type fins are manufactured at a density of 19 FPI (plates per inch). Between the fins are 14 channels through which the refrigerant is pumped. The weight of the equipped system, excluding fans, is 836 grams. The propellers weigh 194 grams each.
The tubes are fixedly connected to the radiator fittings by crimping with plastic clips. The thickness of the manifold on the hose side is 21 mm. The serial number is affixed to the edge.
The collector on the opposite side has a thickness of 15 mm. And here, too, there is a serial number on the verge.
The side slats have three rivets on each side and are stamped with ROG lettering.
The two stock 140mm fans are labeled as ASUS ROG Strix Fan Model 14 ARGB (CF1325H12D). Their impeller has a standard configuration of seven narrow and widely spaced translucent blades, united at the ends by a ring designed to focus the air flow. It reduces air leakage into the gap between the blades and the frame. Illumination LEDs are arranged around the engine in the center. The available speed range is from 700 to 2100 rpm and is controlled by PWM. Bearing type not specified. The frame has an interesting design, but quite a conventional shape and is devoid of vibration dampers. The propeller balance is normal, without parasitic overtones and vibrations. The fan remains relatively quiet up to 1300 rpm, but then it starts to make a noticeable noise. The two unsheathed cables are 320 mm long. The first one contains the +5VDG backlight control connector, and the second one is a standard four-pin fan power connector.
When assembled with fans and taking into account the caps of the mounting screws, the total thickness of the system reaches 58 mm in profile view.
And this is how the fans on the radiator look:
The upper part of the water block, which has dimensions of 80 x 71 mm and a height of 45 mm, is made of plastic. Mirror cover with illuminated logo. Diagonal slots on the sides are also highlighted. The length of the four-pin power cable is 320mm.
To the left of the hoses is the Micro-USB connector needed to sync the ASUS Aura lighting through a standard USB header on the motherboard.
The hoses are connected to the water block using angle fittings that can be easily rotated to the sides at large angles. The pump installed inside has a PWM speed control in the range from 800 to 2800 rpm. The emitted noise levels range from 35 to 40 dB(A). The power cord enters the housing in the middle, between the hoses.
Thermal paste is applied by default on the base of the water block, but in this case it is not, since our review is far from the first one that this system has visited. The base is round and copper, with a diameter of 54 mm, with a conical polishing and a protrusion in the center. The sole of the cooler is attached to the pump with eight screws screwed around the perimeter. The frame with fastening paws is spring-loaded, easily removed by pressing and turning counterclockwise. Installation takes place in the reverse order. By default, a frame is fixed here, suitable for installing a cooler on Intel LGA 115x/1366/2011 sockets.
