In September 2020, Intel introduced the 11th generation of Tiger Lake mobile processors based on the 10nm process technology and with integrated Iris Xe graphics. The new graphics core not only became part of the SoC systems, but also became the basis for Intel Iris Xe Max Graphics discrete graphics, which is used in mobile devices based on the Tiger Lake CPU. So far, we are talking about a budget solution for the mobile segment, but this is Intel’s first step in mastering the discrete graphics market. In the future, we will see more powerful solutions on a similar architecture.
We recently got acquainted with the Acer Swift 5 SF514-55T laptop, which is based on the next generation Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor and an integrated version of Iris Xe. Now let’s see what a system with an Intel Core i7-1165G7 paired with Intel Iris Xe Max discrete graphics is capable of.

Contents of delivery
The laptop comes in a small cardboard box.
Complete with charger and cable.
When connected to the mains, the laptop is powered by a 65W Chicony A18-065N3A block
Appearance
Before us is a compact stylish laptop in a thin magnesium alloy body.
Our version is made in golden color with a blue loop at the screen. Strange color combination, but it looks interesting.
The surface of the case is matte and not easily soiled, pleasant to the touch. There is an Acer logo on the top cover.
At the bottom there are slots for air flow. Rubber feet at the corners provide fixation on the table surface.
When you open the screen, a small step is formed, lifting the case for better airflow.
On the left side is an HDMI connector, a USB 3.2 port and USB 3.2 Type C.
On the right side is another USB 3.2 port, an audio headset combo jack, and a Kensington lock slot.
The screen is surrounded by a thin black frame.
At the top is the usual webcam and several built-in microphones.
The design of the laptop provides for blowing hot air around the right screen hinge.
The working surface is made in the same color as the body. The keys are black, there is no number pad.
Soft backlighting of the keys is provided, which does not hurt the eyes and does not interfere with the user.
It is worth noting a small nuance – the power button is located in the general row of keys. This can lead to accidental clicks, but you can get used to this arrangement.
There is a fingerprint scanner.
The touchpad is made in the form of a single touch pad with two buttons.
Screen
The Acer Swift 3x has a matte screen. Diagonal 14 inches. The Innolux N140HCE-EN2 IPS matrix is used. 1920×1080 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate.
Color space coverage sRGB 98%, Adobe RGB 69%. The color temperature is about 7000K, which is close to the optimal value.
Brightness is adjustable from 26 to 326 cd/m². The contrast ratio is stable at 1300:1.

As a result of the measurements, the Argyll utility shows an average DeltaE color deviation of about 3 units, which is an excellent result.
Screen impressions are good. A high-quality matrix provides a bright contrast picture with good color reproduction. There are no color distortions when changing the viewing angle. The laptop does not belong to the gaming class, so it works at the usual refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is enough for most users to work comfortably.
Internal organization
It’s time to look inside the laptop. On the bottom cover, you can see additional plastic reinforcement to stiffen the case.

A powerful 58 Wh battery is installed.
The cooling system consists of two heat pipes with a radiator and a “turbine”. The tubes simultaneously remove heat from the processor and graphics core. A similar system is used in the Acer Swift 5 SF514-55T.
The board has four Micron LPDDR4X RAM chips and graphics memory.
The Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 dual-band network module is used.
The SSD NVMe M.2 Micron 2210 MTFDHBA1T0QFD with a capacity of 1024 GB is used as a drive.
The drive is shielded. There are two stereo speakers in the corners.
The full specifications of the laptop are shown in the screenshot of the HWiNFO utility.
The Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor ranks second in the Tiger Lake family hierarchy. It has four full-fledged cores, processing eight threads. The base frequency is 1.2 to 2.8 GHz, depending on TDP limits (range 12 to 28 watts). Under Turbo Boost mode, one core can reach a peak frequency of 4.7GHz, all cores can simultaneously accelerate to 4.2GHz.
The economical LPDDR4X-4266 memory is used, which operates in dual-channel mode and provides data transfer speeds up to 4266 MB / s. Memory latencies are 36-39-39-90 at a clock speed of 2133 MHz.
The Intel Iris Xe Max Graphics is an accelerated version of the Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics with the same 96 compute modules. Boost Clock increased to 1650 MHz. The video card is equipped with a separate 4 GB of LPDDR4X-4266 (2133 MHz) memory on a 128-bit bus. DirectX 12 (12_1) is supported.
Software
The Acer Care Center application is installed on the laptop, which allows you to get basic technical information about the device, control startup applications, system updates, battery status, etc.

The laptop also comes pre-installed with trial versions of Microsoft 365 and Norton Security.
Cooling System Efficiency and Noise Level
The laptop was tested in a room with a temperature of 22 ° C. To create the maximum load, the stress test of the AIDA64 utility was used, the combined loading mode of the CPU, cache, memory and graphics accelerator was turned on.
Such a stress test warmed up the processor to 70 ° C, after which the decrease in the frequency of the cores began. With a long load, the frequency of the cores did not exceed 2 GHz at a temperature of about 60 ° C.
The situation in real applications may be different. Let’s check this out with the example of a long-term load of the 3DMark Fire Strike stress test.
In this test, the cores showed frequencies up to 4.1 GHz. Peak core temperatures approached 80°C, but the average operating temperature was 60°C. The graphics core worked in the range of 1200-1500 MHz.
You can estimate the case temperature at maximum load in AIDA64 from the bottom illustration.
Tactile heating is felt in the upper part of the case, but it does not cause discomfort.
