Aerocool Atomic case review – page 1 / Overclockers.ua

[ad_1]

Unusual cases rarely appear in the range of Aerocool, who prefers to brand OEM models without investing in the development of their own unique concepts. However, even in such a stream of “clones” sometimes there are original solutions, which include a chassis called Atomic. It is designed for Micro-ATX motherboards, due to which it has reduced dimensions and a shape close to the cube. Of the “chips” can be noted increased capacity in width and side glass, suspended on hinges and held by magnets, which is extremely rare in this price segment. In addition, there are ARGB-backlit fans, which improves the appearance of the case.

Packing and scope of delivery

The case is sold in a regular box with monochrome printing on the sides. Appearance, characteristics and logistics information are shown and described in detail on all sides of the package. There are no carrying handles. Protection against damage is provided by two soft foam dampers, a plastic bag and stickers on the glass.

The delivery set is assembled according to the principle of emergency. There are not enough screws even to install all supported types of drives at the same time. In total, from the parts, not counting the assembly instructions, we counted:

  • two motherboard racks;
  • six body screws;
  • four screws for 3.5″ hard drives;
  • 12 small screws for motherboard and 2.5″ drives.

The instructions also mention a stand for supporting video cards, but in the current version of the case it is not included in the kit and is available only for Atomic-G-BK-v2, which is honestly warned both in the instructions and on the official website.

Appearance

The exterior design of Aerocool Atomic can be called simple and discreet. Smooth planes, edges at right angles, black color. The front panel is plastic and in its central part a metal ventilation mesh is built in, behind which a pre-installed 200 mm fan is visible. Below is the brand logo.

Buttons and external ports are located at the front of the top panel, slightly offset to the left. From left to right, in order: a round PC start key, two vertical system power and drive activity indicators, a small round system restart button and the same key to switch 15 lighting effects. This is followed by two USB 3.0 ports spaced at a distance, between which two 3.5mm audio jacks for headphones and a microphone are built-in.

The left side panel is a lightly tinted tempered glass that is held on by two pivoting hinges at the back and a pair of magnets at the front.

In front of the side panel there is a folding chrome-plated handle that allows you to conveniently turn the door to the left side, overcoming the attraction of magnets. Access to the system is almost instantaneous.

The thickness of the glass is 3 mm (yes, this is also a little saved). Metal strips are glued to the front and back of it. To remove the panel from its hinges, it must be opened more than 90 degrees and pulled upwards.

The right side panel is solid, flat and metallic. It is held on by two plastic knurled screws and has a stamped handle for easy removal. It opens in the direction to the side, in the manner of a guillotine.

The stiffening ribs have a U-shape, due to which they give good strength to the panel, despite the small thickness of the metal as a whole.

Most of the top panel is occupied by a ventilation grill, covered with a metal magnetic dust filter.

The oblong mounting holes are offset away from the motherboard and fit two 120- or 140-mm fans.

The layout of the rear panel of the chassis is slightly non-standard. The landing holes of the ventilation grille will fit one 120- or 140-mm fan, but two vertical mounts for a video card enter the plane of the grille. They not only limit the possible height adjustment of the propeller, but also, most likely, are not compatible with 140mm models. By the way, the caps on the vertical mount are reusable and it simultaneously acts as a clamping bar for four side PCI slots. It is held by one screw. And the ventilated plugs on the horizontal PCI slots are already disposable. The power supply can only be installed with the fan facing down.

On the base of the case there is a power supply ventilation grill covered with a metal dust filter mesh, four plastic legs and a hole for dismantling the front panel. Even in the front of the case, you can find the heads of two screws that hold the drive basket inside.

The height of the legs in the “chrome” wrapping is 15 mm. Soft dampers are glued on the bottom to eliminate vibration.

Let’s look at the internal structure of the case.
