DDR5 support, overclocking workarounds that are close to (if not better than) Z-chipsets, and all for the price of a Boeing wing? And what was possible? As practice has shown, completely! And the ASUS ROG Strix B660-F Gaming WI-FI motherboard will be the product of such successful practice.

It is very surprising that the manufacturer does not even brag about the main “feature” of its product — an external BCLK generator that guarantees enhanced overclocking capabilities of non-K Intel processors. After all, it can become a decisive factor when buying, but everything has its time.
Supply set
The ROG Strix B660-F Gaming WI-FI motherboard arrives in the hands of a new owner in a medium-sized cardboard box.
On the back of the box, the key features of the board are indicated, in addition, the key technical characteristics are collected.
Inside, the buyer is waiting for an anti-static package with a motherboard, as well as:
- documentation, thanks for the purchase, etc.;
- a set of decorative stickers;
- CD with drivers and firmware;
- four black SATA cables with metal latches (two straight, two angled);
- Q-latch, screws, spacers for mounting M.2 drives;
- key holder;
- Wi-Fi antenna with platform;
- a set of black plastic ties for laying wires.
Appearance
A dark palette of colors on a black textolite. Surprisingly, the minimum concentration of RGB per square centimeter. Just a small logo on the heatsink of the I/O panel, and the wording “GAMER” to the right of it.
Many people will thank you for this, and if this issue is important, then you should not be upset. The motherboard has three Addressable Gen 2 pads and an AURA RGB_HEADER.
The manufacturer took care of the presence of mounting holes under CO for LGA 115x/1200, and this significantly expands the list of compatible coolers, which gives either greater freedom of action, or allows the user to keep his old cooler for the new platform.
Lotes LGA 1700 socket. The operational slots are unremarkable.
The power subsystem is designed according to the 16+1 scheme and is controlled by the Digi+ ASP2100 PWM controller.
Two high-quality radiators are responsible for cooling. Fastening — on bolts.
The motherboard can take on board up to three M.2 drives, each of which will be covered by a radiator on top.
The M.2_1 conductive slot will also provide cooling on the back side of the drive.
The scheme for connecting NVMe drives is as follows:
- M.2_1 works in PCI-E 4.0 x4 mode, designed for 2242/2260/2280/22110 drives. Connected to the CPU.
- M.2_2 works in PCI-E 4.0 x4 mode, designed for 2242/2260/2280/22110 drives. Connected to the chipset.
- M.2_3 works in PCI-E 3.0 x4 mode, designed for 2242/2260/2280 drives. Connected to the chipset.
No M.2 SATA support. A nice bonus is that all slots are equipped with Q-latch, which will allow you to install and remove the drive with bare hands.
This is what their cooling elements look like:
The Intel B660 chipset is cooled by a small radiator. It is fixed with screws, and contact with the crystal is provided by a thermal gasket.

The audio zone is separated from the main part of the board, the Realtek ALC4082 chip is responsible for the sound.
Intel I225-V (2.5G Ethernet) is responsible for the wired network, and Intel AX201 serves Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Now about pads and the like. The CMOS battery is located slightly to the left under the first PCI-E slot, and is very likely to be covered by the graphics card. At the bottom left are: HD_AUDIO pin, 4-pin fan connector, AURA RGB_HEADER pin, ADD_GEN2, COM_DEBUG pin, two USB 2.0 pins, Thunderbolt connector, and T_Sensor thermocouple connector.
On the bottom right are two four-pin connectors for the fan, the front panel pad. There are four SATA ports at an angle of 90 degrees. To the right are the USB 3.0 (USB 3.2 Gen 1) and USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type-C) blocks. At the top there is also a zone of LEDs for POST indication, two RGB blocks and two four-pin connectors for fans.

A plug is installed on the I/O. From the specific you can find the CLR_CMOS button, the button and the LED of the BIOS FlashBack function. Of the usual connectors, the following are located here:
- x1 HDMI v2.1;
- x1 DisplayPort v1.4;
- x2 USB 2.0 (Type A);
- x4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 (Type A);
- x1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type A);
- x1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 (Type C);
- x1 USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 (Type C);
- x1 RJ-45 (2.5G);
- x5 Mini Jack (Line in, Line out, Mic in, C/SUB, Rear);
- x2 SMA (for connecting the Wi-Fi antenna).
