The times when the Deepcool brand was associated exclusively with budget products are slowly fading into the past. The company has taken a course to improve the quality and functionality of their products, at least that’s the impression from the latest reviews of their products that I had to do. The subject of this article is the Deepcool Gammaxx 400 EX processor cooler.
Right off the bat, I would like to note that it does not have RGB lighting or any sophisticated new technologies. Everything is very simple, clear and practical. The whole design of the cooler says one thing: it was clearly created solely for one main purpose – quiet cooling. And in our time, this is a rare combination of qualities.

Packing and scope of delivery
The cooler is packaged in a small green-gray box. The image of the cooler is only on its frontal part. The rest of the space is reserved for listing the advantages, technical characteristics and information about the dimensions of the device. Inside, the cooler is protected from damage by polyurethane dampers, laid on top and bottom.

The delivery set of the Gammaxx 400 EX is logical and minimalist. In addition to the radiator and two fans, there is:
- installation instructions;
- a bag of thermal paste;
- two sets of mounting brackets for fans;
- universal plastic reinforcement plate;
- mounting feet for AMD AM3 and AM4;
- mounting feet for Intel LGA 115x/1200/1366;
- two small screws for fixing the mounting feet on the cooler;
- four through screw racks;
- four long screw studs;
- four spring nuts.
Appearance
The cooler assembly with fans looks solid, thanks to simple straight lines and black color of the top cover. Its overall height is 158mm and its width is 129mm.
The thickness of the cooler in profile with two fans is 103 mm. However, it does not interfere with RAM. The propellers are attached to the body of the radiator with wire clips. It is not difficult to snap them in, but to remove them, you will need to pry with something like tweezers, directing it along the line of the ribs.
This is what the cooler looks like from the back when the second fan is oriented to the exhaust from the radiator:
A black matte metal overlay covers the ends of the heat pipes and makes the appearance of the product more aesthetic. The overlay is held on by two hexagonal screws, and the inscription on it will easily allow you to determine where the cooler has the front and where the back.
Deepcool Gammaxx 400 EX comes with two identical 120x120x25 mm fans. They are made, as they say, “sincerely”. Black frame and blades. There are gray triangular rubber vibration dampers at the corners of the frame on each side. The nine blades have standard pitch angles for the right compromise between static pressure and air volume. In the lower part of the faces, a kind of “wings” are built in, which reduce the turbulence of the air flow, and hence the noise from it. The available range of rotation of the impeller is from 500 to 1500 rpm, it works very quietly and without extraneous noise. Up to 800 rpm and 40 dB (A) the propeller is inaudible. At 1000 rpm and 42 dB (A) it is barely audible. At maximum speed, an average noise level of 55 dB(A) is obtained, without annoying acoustic components. In general, everything is very successful. The bearing is declared hydraulic. The power connection is via a 250 mm nylon braided cable with a standard four-pin connector.
Without body kit, the radiator has a width of 127 mm and a thickness of 50 mm. Height without top plate is 155 mm. There are no special aerodynamic improvements in the body of the radiator, the recesses in the center are probably intended for lighting cables in other variations of the model.
The body of the heatsink consists of four copper 6mm heat pipes and 56 fins spaced 1.75mm apart. The total heat dissipation area is a decent 7168 cm². The heat pipes are arranged unpretentiously and not far from each other, according to the U-shaped formula.
On the sides in the central part there are two rows of recesses for mounting brackets for fans. In profile, the heat pipes are directed completely vertically.
Judging by the caps of the patch plate, the heat pipes are assembled next to each other in the shape of a rhombus.
To connect the tubes to each other, a laconic gray aluminum pressure plate is used, without unnecessary decorative elements.
The fit of the tubes at the joints is close to ideal.
The base of the cooler is quite even, with direct contact, radial polishing and no significant gaps. The distance between the tubes is 2.8 mm. The total effective area of the sole is 35×35 mm.
Let’s move on to installing and testing the cooler.
