In one of the previous articles, we reviewed the popular Acer Nitro VG270U Pbmiipx gaming monitor. This model has won recognition from the gaming community due to the successful combination of key features: a fast IPS-matrix, good color accuracy and a relatively affordable price. At the same time, a number of potential buyers were dissatisfied with the limited capabilities of the monitor stand and, responding to this request, Acer promptly replenished its range with a new model – Nitro XV272U Pbmiiprzx. The novelty has become a little more expensive, improved ergonomics and received a new matrix from Innolux. Well, let’s find out what a newcomer is and is it worth the $80 surcharge?
Acer Nitro XV272U Pbmiiprzx (UM.HX2EE.P01)
In terms of technical characteristics, the Acer Nitro XV272U Pbmiiprzx looks very attractive. Before us is a 27-inch monitor built on the basis of a pseudo 10-bit IPS-matrix (8 bit + FRC) and with extended color gamut (95% DCI-P3 compliance). The maximum screen resolution is 2560×1440 pixels, the contrast ratio is 1000:1, the peak brightness can reach 400 nits, thanks to which the monitor was able to receive the VESA HDR 400 certification. The gray to gray pixel response is 4ms and can be reduced to 1ms in VRB mode. The maximum image refresh rate is set to 144Hz. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync and Flicker-less technologies (complete absence of backlight flicker in the entire brightness range). In addition, the hero of the review received not only a more functional stand, but also an expanded set of interfaces. Now the user has access to four USB 3.0 ports at once (two on the rear panel and two in the form of a hub on the left side).

As for the price, at the time of writing the review, the cost of the Acer Nitro XV272U Pbmiiprzx in Ukrainian retail was $500, which makes it the main competitor to the recently announced gaming monitor from LG in the same class – 27GL850-B.
Contents of delivery
The device comes in a large cardboard box, on the front side of which the monitor itself is depicted, as well as all the key technologies and advantages of a particular model are listed.
Inside the package, the owner will find a completely standard delivery set:
- monitor;
- power cable;
- HDMI cable;
- USB cable for PC connection;
- instruction manual;
- factory pre-calibration report.
The power supply is integrated into the body of the device, which simplifies the connection procedure.
Appearance and ergonomics
Externally, the Acer Nitro XV272U Pbmiiprzx is very similar to its many counterparts from older and younger lines. The design of the case is based on a frameless design. The case itself is made of black matte plastic. The only significant difference from the previously reviewed Nitro VG270U Pbmiipx was the new stand. Now its base is made not in the form of an aggressive tripod, but in the form of a much more restrained circle.
The width of the screen bezel on three sides is one centimeter. Most of the frames are hidden under the protective glass and in dark scenes or when the monitor is turned off, the monitor really seems to be absolutely frameless.
The bottom bezel is about twice as thick, made of plastic and protrudes above the screen surface.
The back side of the device stands out due to an interesting combination of two different textures: rough plastic at the bottom and a smooth, metal effect, closer to the top edge of the monitor. In the upper left corner there is a glossy logo of the manufacturer. During operation, the case collects a moderate amount of fingerprints and dust.
On the back side there is also a system of ventilation holes, which is due to the internal placement of the device’s power supply and the need for its cooling.
The thickness of the monitor in profile, including the stand, reaches 23 cm. The overall dimensions are 614.6×520.7 mm, with a total weight of 6.46 kg.
The new stand is made entirely of metal alloy, and its design provides for the simplest procedure for installing the device without using any additional tools.
To assemble the stand, it is enough to tighten a single screw located on its reverse side. At the bottom of the base are four rubberized feet, evenly spaced around the entire perimeter, which contributes to the excellent stability of the monitor on the table surface.
The connection of the stand with the main part of the monitor is carried out in one click thanks to the quick attachment mechanism. To detach the stand, press the corresponding button.
As mentioned at the beginning of the material, the new leg has become much more functional and practically does not limit the future owner in the possibilities of setting the optimal position of the device. The user has access to: adjusting the screen height within 120 mm, changing the tilt angle in the range from -5 to +20 degrees, turning the monitor into portrait mode (pivot) and a mechanism for fixing the screen clearly in the center (stopper) when returning to a horizontal position.
At the same time, it is worth noting that the monitor can be rotated 180 degrees only in one direction, and when turning to the second angle, the rotation is limited to approximately 165 degrees.
For those users who wish to hang the monitor on the wall or use a separate bracket, a VESA mount (100x100mm) is available.
The hero of the review received a fairly wide range of interfaces. On the main panel at the bottom of the case are two HDMI ports, DisplayPort, audio output and a pair of USB 3.0 ports.
Two more USB 3.0 ports are placed in the form of a hub on the side of the device.
The connector for connecting the power cable is located on the far left side. The entire set of ports is directed downwards, which makes connecting cables blindly somewhat difficult.
The design of the monitor provides for the presence of two speakers, with a total power of 4 watts. Their sound quality is identical to the one we encountered when considering the Acer Nitro VG270U Pbmiipx model and is comparable to the acoustics built into most modern laptops. The headroom of the audio system will be enough to watch a movie or play a game, but if the sound factor plays a significant role for you, then you definitely want to pick up something more profile.
But I did not have any complaints about the build quality or materials of the monitor. The plastic does not look cheap, the metal leg holds the device perfectly, there are no backlashes or creaks, the gaps between the panels and the screen matrix in our copy turned out to be minimal.
Menu and controls
The settings management system and the menu structure of the review hero are typical for Acer gaming monitors. Four hardware buttons and one five-way joystick are responsible for navigation. Navigating between the menu tabs is convenient, most of the settings can be made using only the joystick. The monitor’s power button is raised slightly higher than the others.
A small blue diode located in the right corner of the lower frame of the screen is responsible for indicating the operation of the device.
The settings menu is well structured and intuitive to navigate. Despite the extensive list of available options, it is quite difficult to get lost in it. A number of settings are placed in separate quick access windows. So in the first window, you can activate the HDR mode, adjust the backlight intensity, select the input source, or go to the main menu.
The second window in the Quick Access Toolbar is responsible for switching between factory picture modes. If desired, the user can reassign the shortcut keys to their liking.
The main menu consists of six logical sections. The Picture tab is responsible for adjusting the brightness and contrast levels, enabling or disabling the blue filter (it will be useful for those who read a lot at the monitor), correcting dark areas of the image, activating dynamic contrast and HDR mode, and sharpening the image.
In the Color item, you can adjust the gamma and color temperature, select one of 8 preset image display presets, and set RGB values manually or activate one of the five color space display modes (sRGB, EBU, Rec.709, DCI, SMPTe-C) .
The Audio section contains settings for adjusting the volume of the built-in speakers.
Everything related to matrix overclocking, FreeSync and image refresh rate control is placed in the Gaming submenu. Also, in this section, you can activate the VRB mode, which we will discuss in more detail later, or add a permanent sight in the center of the screen.
The remaining two items are responsible for the settings for the appearance of the menu itself and for the system settings block. Their list can be found in the photos below.
