Until recently, we usually had laptops based on Intel Core 11 generation processors for testing, which do not look so interesting against the background of modern Alder Lake. But manufacturers are equipping more and more models with new CPUs, and we will consider one of them in this review, namely ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 G533ZW.
ASUS ROG Strix Scar 15 G533ZW
This is a powerful gaming laptop based on a Core i9-12900H processor and a GeForce RTX 3070 Ti video card. It is equipped with a high-speed drive with a capacity of 1 TB and a modern memory of the DDR5 standard with a volume of 32 GB. To immerse yourself in the gameplay, it has a 15.6″ matrix with a Quad HD resolution and a refresh rate of 240 Hz with good color coverage. In addition, there is a bright backlight for the keyboard and the laptop itself with adjustable modes and effects. And all this in a relatively small case, but everything is in order.

Supply set
The laptop comes in a medium-sized black box with a ROG-style design, which includes a carrying handle.
The delivery includes some documentation, a powerful power supply unit with a cable, decorative overlays and a free hanger. Some ROG Strix Scar models can come with another less powerful BJ, an external camera, a mouse, headphones and a nice backpack. As you understood, we got the simplest configuration.
The power supply is designed for a mains voltage of 100-240 V with a frequency of 50-60 Hz, has an output voltage of 20 V with a current of 14 A, which is equal to a whopping 280 W, and as our testing will show, it fully justifies such power.
Two more decorative overlays on the hinge allow you to add individuality to the laptop. If that’s not enough, you can download templates for 3D printing and create a unique style for your laptop.
The kit also includes a Keystone magnetic key, which thanks to NFC technology provides quick access to some software functions and allows you to open a previously hidden partition on the drive. In order not to lose the key, there is a free key with a pocket for it.
Appearance
The laptop has dimensions of 354x259x22.6 mm and weighs 2.3 kg, which does not exceed the characteristics of average laptops with a 15″ matrix, and considering the powerful components, these are even good indicators.
Compared to last year’s ROG Strix Scar models, the external design has changed a little. The dot pattern on the lid has disappeared, replaced by a diagonal stripe with small ROG logos, and the main backlit logo has changed slightly.
The bottom cover has the same diagonal design as before. The mesh dot texture remained, but the silicone panel became lighter.
There are openings for two speakers on the front, as well as a transparent strip for RGB lighting – nothing has changed in this regard either.
Decorative overlays are easily replaced, it is enough to pull them to the side and uphill. They are held thanks to built-in magnets. You can take templates from the ASUS website and print your own pads, thereby emphasizing your individuality. They have several holes for additional ventilation.
In addition, there are point holes on the panel nearby, which form some kind of drawing or inscription.
On the back side, there are already larger holes for the efficient operation of the cooling system. The grill on the left is stylized under 2006 Roman numerals — the year the Republic of Gamers brand appeared.
There are also grills on the left and right sides of the laptop for free air flow. On the left are two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports and a combined audio jack for connecting a headset.
On the right side, there is only a port with a cell for a Keystone, which is pulled into the laptop case with the help of a magnet, if you put this key there.
On the back are two USB Type-C ports with DisplayPort support — the one on the edge allows you to connect a power supply unit, and the second one is combined with Thunderbolt 4. Next to them there is an HDMI connector, a LAN port and a socket for power.
ROG Strix Scar 15 G533 does not have a webcam, so you will have to buy it separately. The screen has thin bezels and seems to have no bezels at all.
It also reclines at an angle of about 120 degrees.
An island-type keyboard without a numeric keypad, which gives the impression that the laptop is not 15″, but somewhere between 13-14 inches. Durable switches (100 million clicks) with a total stroke of 1.9 mm and RGB backlight are used.
On top of the main unit there are auxiliary keys that adjust the volume, turn off the microphone, force the cooling system and activate the proprietary Armory Crate application.
On the right side there are several additional buttons that are responsible for controlling the player, as well as the Delete and PrintScreen keys. Here we also see a design solution with a decorative separation of the surface, which repeats the diagonal course on the lid. This corner is translucent, the rest of the surface has a soft-touch coating, which, unfortunately, is very sticky and collects all the fingerprints.
Touchpad made of glass, large in size and carrying the function of a digital block, just press your finger to the inscription Num Lock and hold it for a few seconds. When activated, it lights up in white. In general, a very convenient solution.
The bottom of the case and the keyboard have RGB lighting with a palette of 16.5 million colors with all kinds of special effects that can be customized in Armory Crate.
