The New Year holidays have died down, and after them the gaming industry is slowly waking up. In 2020, we are waiting for a bunch of iconic games, some of which may become cult. As always at the beginning of the year, we tried to collect the most anticipated of them in one place. True, the material will have to be divided into two parts, because with difficulty it was possible to reduce the list to 20 projects. See the top ten below.
Final Fantasy VII Remake

Released back in 1997, the Japanese role-playing game Final Fantasy VII became a kind of bridge to introduce domestic gamers to the incredible world of jRPG. It is this part that is considered the best among fans, so its remake was expected for a very long time, since the time of the third “curling iron”, but it did not grow together. But in 2017, Square Enix officially announced the start of work on a full-fledged remake of the game. The creators promise not to touch the classic plot, but to significantly improve the graphics and rethink the combat system, which will combine turn-based tactics and real-time battles.
Initially, the release of Final Fantasy VII Remake was planned on March 3, 2020, but recently the creators postponed the release to April 10, explaining this by plans to bring the project to the ideal. They apologized for the delay, and the fans were upset, but they are still ready to be patient – before that they had been waiting for years and compared to this a month is nothing.
Nioh 2

The first part of Nioh made a lot of noise among fans of Souls games, which is why the continuation is expected, basically, by them. For the first time, Team Ninja has come up with a great hardcore action game set in the mythology of ancient Japan. Naturally, this game is not for everyone. But for those who are into Sekiro, Bloodborne, and the three Dark Souls titles, the new game in this ass-sick but limited genre will be like a breath of fresh air.
In addition, there is a chance that Nioh 2 will attract new fans – after the release of the next Souls project, the number of masochistic gamers for some reason increases. The game will release on March 13, 2020 for PlayStation 4.
Doom Eternal

Judging by the trailers and test benches from various exhibitions, id Software has made another iconic shooter in its classic sense – a minimum of plot and adequacy, an emphasis on gameplay and shooting mechanics.
Most of those who tried the game were delighted, and the press and fans even agree that Doom Eternal is likely to become a new cult shooter and will definitely overtake the mega-popular Doom of 2016.
True, they managed to present a couple of claims to Doom Eternal. Some players did not like too much, in their opinion, the bright and colorful interface, but this is perhaps the most important “minus” that has been found in Doom Eternal so far. Otherwise, we are waiting for things familiar to the series – demons, arenas, a sea of blood and guns, corpses, meat and dismemberment.
It would be faster on March 20, 2020 – it was on this date that id Software postponed the release of its shooter, although Doom Eternal was originally supposed to be released on November 22, 2019. The creators again took extra time to “finish the little things and polish everything to the ideal.”
Half-Life: Alyx

I never thought that I would add a VR project from Valve to the list of the most anticipated games. And even more so, I didn’t expect that it would be a new Half-Life, albeit not the third one, and even in virtual reality.
With the help of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve has already significantly increased sales of its helmets, which it added with this announcement. And the creators clearly want to revolutionize the world of VR gaming, because judging by the trailers and first tests, Half-Life: Alyx boasts great graphics, a painfully familiar world and some favorite characters. It is a pity that it was created exclusively for virtual reality helmets. But after the next viewing of the Half-Life: Alyx gameplay, one really wants to buy a VR helmet and wait for March 2020. It was at the beginning of spring that the studio promised to release this game, but the exact date is still not disclosed.
Cyberpunk 2077

I think I will express the opinion of many gamers when I write that Cyberpunk 2077 is the most anticipated game of 2020. Before us is exactly the case when almost the entire gaming community is waiting for something one and together, despite the conventions of the genre and the setting.
Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed by Polish studio CD Projekt Red, creators of three Witcher games. These projects brought worldwide popularity to the Poles and a lot of money that they invested in their dream game – Cyberpunk 2077.
Based on a fairly well-known board game, the long-awaited RPG is made in the entourage of cyberpunk and tells about the city of the future Night City, its inhabitants, corporations and harsh showdowns. The shown videos, trailers and gameplay are more and more convincing – we have a new masterpiece in front of us. So let’s cross our fingers that this will happen.
Cyberpunk 2077 is characterized by the iconic features of the CD Projekt Red game – a classic role-playing system, a huge living world, tons of fascinating dialogues, as many diverse quests, bright characters, crazy ideas and a deep story where there is no classic Good and Evil. And it will also feature Keanu Reeves, whose appearance in the game some are waiting for even more than Cyberpunk 2077 itself.
There were some delays, so the original release date of April 16 literally last week was moved to September 17 – the Poles need another six months to do everything right. The game will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Marvel’s Avengers

Developed by the studio Crystal Dynamics superhero action Marvel’s Avengers does not pretend to the depth of the story and touching on complex topics. The game was made on the wave of hype on Marvel comics and speaks directly about it without hesitation. Because of what fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are already drooling over the game, because they promise to let you play as Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and other famous superheroes.
Judging by the announcements and videos, we are waiting for a solid and expensive story-driven action with an abundance of QTEs and many sets of equipment for familiar heroes. If not for the publisher Square Enix, it seems that we have another loot project from BioWare or Electronic Arts – so far, Marvel’s Avengers resemble the games of these companies. We hope the Japanese will do everything better and will not force gamers to swear at donations, dishonest buns from the in-game store, loot boxes and so on.
Marvel’s Avengers is scheduled to release on May 15, 2020 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Wasteland 3

On May 19, 2020, the third part of the cult RPG Wasteland will be released on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. It was the first game that gave life to the more seasoned Fallout and pushed the genre of isometric post-apocalyptic role-playing games to the tops of popularity.
Wasteland 3 returns gamers to the role of the Desert Rangers, working to rebuild civilization from the ashes, and the story takes players from dusty Nevada to snowy Colorado.
Wasteland 3 is being developed by InXile Entertainment and Deep Silver. They attracted the legendary Brian Fargo, who was at the helm of the first part, to the project, so we really hope for the maximum approximation to that same Wasteland.
At the same time, the creators admitted that in addition to the traditional role-playing elements and tactical turn-based combat, Wasteland 3 will feature a new dynamic conversation system, vehicle upgrades, and the ability to co-op the campaign on the Web. How this will affect the feel and gameplay in general is not yet clear, but it is unlikely to hurt.
The Last of Us: Part 2

On May 29, 2020, the second part of one of the best console games, The Last of Us, will be released on PlayStation 4. Some fans believe that the story of Joel and Ellie is completely told and does not need to be continued, but the guys from the Naughty Dog studio do not agree with them.
After many years of silence, the second part was first announced, then made for years, and finally set a release date for February 21, 2020. And then moved forward three months.
Such delays are common in the gaming industry, especially with large AAA-class projects, and even more so at Naughty Dog – the studio releases iconic games, but mercilessly delays their release. In the case of The Last of Us: Part 2, everyone is ready to wait, if only the creators turned out no worse than the first time.
The sequel follows an older Ellie and an older Joel as they face new challenges and difficult decisions. Judging by the trailers, Part 2 has an excellent picture and gameplay close to the first part. Looking forward to the end of spring and fingers crossed for another possible masterpiece.
Dying Light 2

Together with the project above, Dying Light 2 is one of the most anticipated zombie games of 2020. This time we are promised an even bigger city, a well-developed plot, which is directly influenced by the actions and dialogues of the gamer, an abundance of the walking dead, mesmerizing parkour and tough combat.
Dying Light 2 was written by Chris Avellone himself, who had a hand (and head) in Prey, Fallout: New Vegas and many other iconic games. Therefore, we hope that the story of the second part will be more interesting than the first, because it was more interesting to explore the world alone and do side quests than to complete, for the most part, stupid main tasks.
Dying Light 2 is being developed by the same Polish studio Techland, creators of the Call of Juarez and Dead Island series. Judging by the trailers and gameplay videos, the guys have grown a lot after the first part and made, perhaps, a new top game about survival and zombies. We look forward to and believe in the neighbors of the Poles.
Dying Light 2 was supposed to be released in the spring of 2020 on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. But on January 20, the creators announced that they were postponing the release, although the exact release date or approximate release month was not announced.
Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2

The original Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was released in 2004. The game turned out to be deep and addictive, but in the same year GTA: San Andreas and Half-Life 2 saw the light of day, so gamers missed the premiere of a role-playing game about vampires a little, but then they made up for lost time. Bloodlines was scolded for a huge number of bugs and this clearly did not benefit the game. But over the years, the project has gained cult status, and unofficial patches from fans are still being released.
Naturally, when Hardsuit Labs, under the auspices of Paradox Interactive and Deep Silver, decided to make the second part, gamers were delighted, but at the same time they tensed up – the developers are new and it is not known how it will end. True, it was later reported that part of the old team would join the creators, as well as the screenwriter of the original game, Brian Mitsoda, who was hired as an assistant by Chris Avellone himself.
It’s important to understand that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 may not be released in 2020. The developers vaguely hinted at a period of these 12 months, but they did not name the exact date and constantly refuse to do so.
Well, the fans decided that they could wait. After all, they are not waiting for anything, but for another cult vampire RPG. So, let the guys from Hardsuit Labs take their time and do everything right.
We may have missed some of the games that you are waiting for. Therefore, write about them in the comments and do not forget that the second part of our expectations will be released soon, where your long-awaited project may be.
