And this is not a plywood flight over Paris? Of course, this is still the cheapest and weakest solution for the LGA 1200 platform, but if you look back at the previous representatives of the Celeron family, you can see a very significant performance boost.
Let’s consider the actual family in more detail.

Celeron G5900 and G5920 are equipped with 2 MB of L3 cache, while Celeron G5905 and G5925 already have 4 MB, and, of course, Intel’s signature feature, namely 100 MHz over the frequencies of younger colleagues. It’s nice to see how the traditions of the manufacturer are honored! All are equipped with the same integrated graphics card – Intel UHD Graphics 610 with identical frequencies. It is possible to work with 128 GB of RAM – this is a very serious statement for leadership. Leadership in the segment of processors for $50 today and $1 in the used market after 10 years. In addition, against the background of its predecessors, Intel deigns to run memory at a frequency of DDR4-2666. Gotta take it! So far, the majority are watching the battles of the flagships, and do not even realize that the revolution is happening right under their noses. After all, these solutions make up the vast majority of the corporate segment, which almost always remains in the shadows. So let’s correct this injustice within our country, and highlight the state of affairs in this segment!
The package bundle of the Celeron G5905 is quite typical for Intel: documentation, a sticker on the case, a cooler, and a processor. The cooler is the simplest possible – Foxconn E97379-003, and it is more than enough to cool the test subject. Intel even ships a 6-core Core i5-10400 with the same cooler. And a year earlier, the company recalled the 4-core Xeon E-2274G due to lack of cooling. There is no point in commenting on the sticker on the case, the Intel Inside case is as eternal as the ficus. The processor itself has grown 50 additional pins on the background of its predecessors. Let’s pretend that this is done for its better and more efficient work, and not to curb the enthusiasm of users and the impossibility of organizing a Coffee mod.

Let’s start testing, let’s push it against modern Intel Pentium Gold G5400, AMD Athlon 3000G, and Intel Celeron G530 10 years ago.

This time, testing will do without a chiller, it will be replaced by the famous Intel K69237-001 afrocooler, which is equipped with older LGA 1200 solutions, like the Core i7-10700.

The room temperature was 20 degrees Celsius. The power consumption of the platform was measured using a Feron TM55 energy meter for 10 minutes in load mode (LinX run) and idle. Fan speed control is automatic. Each benchmark was run five times, the results indicate the arithmetic mean, the same goes for games. The games recorded telemetry (1% low fps + average fps) using Riva Tuner Statistics Server. Further methods are different from the standard ones. In CS:GO, a test on the FPS Benchmark workshop map. In DOTA 2, a replay of the final game OG vs Liquid at The International 2019, 19:45–21:15 on an automatic camera. RAW Gameplay symbolizes pure gameplay, such tests were done once, and are not similar to each other, so the accuracy is relative. All test participants have factory settings, the memory frequency is set to the one recommended on the manufacturers’ websites (JEDEC timings). The exception is the main character, he was also overclocked to the following parameters:
Core clock = 3595 MHz, L3 cache (ring bus) = 3287 MHz, RAM clock = 3972 MHz, CL timings 15-17-17-300 2T, BCLK = 102.7 MHz.

Testing
Let’s start with testing the bundled cooler. As mentioned earlier, he successfully copes with his task with a significant margin.

A maximum of 41 degrees in the load, you can not change the thermal paste for 10 years without worrying about the safety of the processor.
In terms of power consumption, our test subject is the best. The decrease in idle consumption is especially noticeable. Now let’s check the strength of the IGP Intel UHD Graphics 610. The integrated video card is blocked for overclocking activities, even the Z490 does not allow you to work with its frequency. However, the same applies to the Pentium Gold G5400 and Z390 (LGA 1151v2). Only Athlon 3000G gives you complete freedom of action. So we will limit ourselves to overclocking the RAM. Do not forget that this is almost the cheapest solution in the current model range:
No, we haven’t lost HD Graphics Sandy Bridge from Celeron G530, it’s just that its IGP can’t handle DX11 and OpenCL. And then the reader with a high degree of probability will be visited by the thought “what did you expect then?”.
Actually, this is what we expected, barely 16 fps at low quality in HD resolution. It is unlikely that the reader will benefit from the obvious information of the level of 1-2 fps in the following disciplines. The growth of the Celeron G5905 is visible to the naked eye.
Overclocking is almost useless for the UHD Graphics 610, however, under conditions of adequate use (we hope for 99.8%), it will not happen. Now you can count on some kind of playability in HD resolution in many projects. If we take into account the end of the decade before last – even in Full HD.
But there are exceptions, just look at the stutters in the ancient (by today’s standards) Need For Speed Carbon, drawdowns 1% low to 3 fps:
Yes, graphics can display a picture on three screens in 4K, yes, it supports all modern APIs, even supports Quick Sync, and these are its main advantages. You should not expect anything more from it, and take gaming opportunities as a free bonus. Now let’s deal with the torment of the processor part, where the Celeron G530 returns again:
On average, the Celeron G5905 is doubly superior to its great-great-great processor. It’s time to add an AMD Radeon R9 NANO discrete graphics card to it.
The final benchmark is a comprehensive assessment of the entire system using PCMark 10 – Extended, with and without discrete graphics.
Send everyone you know who thinks you can play modern games on Celeron to read this article, because hardly anyone else will check it. Who else would think of playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Celeron without the threat of privacy, except for the author?
Have you already presented the scene with the confused John Travolta from the movie “Pulp Fiction”? Assassin’s Creed Valhalla could not start even after 10 minutes, even on a different drive with a different OS. Cyberpunk 2077 was able to launch but went into a black screen when trying to load a save or start a new game. And the same behavior was noticed on the Celeron G530. What does it say? About the developers’ conspiracy against the Celeron processor line? While the world cares about social justice and tolerance issues, there is a clear prejudice against Celeron in the world of computer components. At the same time, the Pentium Gold G5400, which is close in class, does not encounter such problems, and after all, 10 years ago, the power of the Celeron G5905 could be bought under the guise of a Core i3-2130, or even a Core i3-3220.
As you can see from the screenshots, the processor power is not enough to timely load the details of the surrounding world, so some, such as DOOM Eternal, blur the picture so much that after what they see, DLSS will seem like great technology. So you can make allowances for digital indicators, if the picture was what it should have been – fps would be much lower. However, after a certain period of time, everything is loaded, and it gets better.
From this it is worth concluding that Celeron is still not capable of mastering modern games. As for typical undemanding session games:
A moment offtopic: the new AGESA 1.1.0.0 affects the Athlon 3000G in a not so good way, usually it is much closer to the Pentium Gold G5400, and here sometimes it even manages to lose the Celeron G5905. AMD realized that they released too strong a fighter in the 2-core segment, and decided to turn it into a pumpkin?
With typical modern games, the Celeron G5905 is much better, everywhere 60 fps at the minimum graphics quality, and there are no problems with underloading parts on time. But it’s better to remind once again that his abilities in games should be taken as a bonus, and not for granted.
conclusions
Now seriously, without jokes and entertainment. In conclusion, I would like to note that for basic use, such as working with a browser, watching YouTube in 4K, working with office suites, the Celeron G5905 will do just fine, and that’s it. It is certainly significantly faster than previous generations of Celeron, but considering it outside the criterion of the cheapest possible assembly, when it comes to saving $ 1 for the sake of two additional USB ports on the motherboard, is a bad idea. It is suitable only for office PCs, and for those that are not sharpened for heavy use. Its margin of safety is as limited as the Celeron G530 was in its time. After a couple of years from the announcement of the termination of production and support for the LGA 1200 platform, it will be possible to find it “by weight” for $ 1-2. If your needs somehow exceed the above, it’s better to buy an Athlon 3000G, or a Pentium G5400/G6400, or take a flagship for your current AM3/775/1155/etc. Surely the last available overclocking and fine-tuning. So the current Celeron today supports all the necessary APIs and functions that are needed in 2021, but if you have a choice, it’s better to conditionally save on the amount of memory, or take a SATA SSD instead of NVMe, giving preference to older processors, because the margin of safety for the future is it is not felt at all. The absolute minimum for working with a PC at the moment, so that there is no desire to leave to make tea.
