More than a year had passed since the introduction of products based on the AMD B550, and the market was in desperate need of updating the assortment. However, the company did not come up with anything new for the AM4 socket, and nevertheless, all manufacturers have already presented updated products based on the old-new X570 chip. Someone highlighted the “S” symbol, as in our example, but already on the block diagram in the user manual you can see the marking under the familiar “X570”. Be that as it may, there is no fan on the cooler now, whether the technical process, engineering interventions, software innovations or anything else is hidden behind this is unknown. The chip itself is literally the same as before.
We’ll be taking a look at the new Riptide nameplate announced along with the “new” chipset. The path already beaten by all leading manufacturers – the rejection of incomprehensible numbers and abbreviations emphasizes the trends of recent years. The gaming positioning of the board entails a special approach for the network and audio subsystems. The controller for wired connections here is from the already forgotten Killer series, but the codec is the simplest, there are no additional circuit solutions.
Otherwise, the device is unremarkable, there are no additional controllers, and we will deal with the implementation of everything available from the CPU lines and, in fact, the X570 as we get acquainted. The list of main characteristics is collected in the table below.

The general idea of building products based on the X570 was considered in the course of acquaintance with the ASUS Prime X570-Pro.
Packaging and equipment
A box of ordinary sizes is used, the cardboard is not the densest, all this indicates a close relationship with entry-level boards. The color and styling make reference to the water theme, which is directly related to the name of the product.
The information content of the back side is up to par: there is a photo of the board, a schematic representation of the ports on the rear panel, and next to it is a table with characteristics. The focus is on Lightning Gaming Ports, the bundled Graphics Card Holder, DrMOS as part of the VRM, and a custom network controller. Reading the footnotes carefully, you can understand that SATA 5 and 6 resources are overlapped by the lower M.2, that is, the maximum number of drives here will be seven, not taking into account the theoretical possibility of using PCI-E ports.

- disk with drivers and proprietary software;
- company logo sticker;
- three mounting screws and one M.2 rack;
- two SATA 6Gb / s cables, one of which has an L-shaped connector on one of the ends;
- plug for the body, complete with a black sticker with color and symbol designation of all sockets. The reverse part is pasted over with noise-absorbing material;
- Graphics Card Holder complete with six screws (two short ones for fastening the petal, two pairs of elongated ones with two types of threads for case racks).
Popular decorative delights of recent years have bypassed this product: there is no visor above the I / O ports of the rear panel, even the case plate is not pre-installed. Readiness to work with powerful processors emphasizes a pair of power sockets. A minimum of effort on “uselessness”, a maximum – on providing the product with useful properties.
All hinged structures are fixed with screws. Behind the electronic components are in different areas, so the assembly will require accuracy.
The backlight oozes from under the radiator for the system logic, third-party luminous elements are switched to the board via four additional pads of two types.
A window is provided in the cast “blank”, and the structure is ennobled with a decorative sticker on top. The issue of chip temperature is not on the agenda – everything is within reasonable limits without special special equipment.
The seat under the SSD from above is supplemented with a long radiator, which cannot be adjusted down precisely because of the size.
There is plenty of space, but there is no rack for the 22110 form factor, respectively, the length of the devices is limited to eight traditional centimeters. Only PCI-E lines from the socket are available here.
The bottom slot can support both SATA and PCI-E interfaces, they are provided by AMD X570. Again, there is no support for 22110, but any shorter drive will do here.
There are six longitudinal SATA outputs, we already talked about the limitations of the availability of a couple of them a little earlier.
Full support for case USB outputs has been implemented: a transverse rack for symmetrical Type C 3.2 Gen 2, two (!) For four 3.2 Gen 1 ports, the same number for classic 2.0. Additional controllers also have where to connect.
The division of PCI-E lines from the processor between several PCI-E x16 slots is not provided. Near the main there is nothing from the electronic components, which will protect the device from the inept hands of the system owners during the installation of the VC. Five unshielded ports will interact with the hub. The shortest ones here have an open type of execution, although the technique is more marketing, since in two cases it is impossible not to highlight obvious obstacles. The sixth expansion port will be M.2 type 2230 for wireless network adapters.
The illumination is so bright that not only the logo on the radiator will glow, but actually the entire lower compartment in the case – all thanks to six LEDs soldered near the X570.
The audio subsystem is of the simplest design: the basic codec represented by Realtek’s ALC897 is accompanied by two pairs of special capacitors. There is no shielding, no backlighting, as well as additional chips, for example, an op-amp.
Four red glow indicators from the POST Status Checker complex are wired above the RAM slots. The place is much better than on other products of the manufacturer.
At the lower right corner, quite unexpectedly, there is a button for resetting the CMOS settings. There are also no comments on the place of desoldering – access there will be easy even in the state of the assembled PC.
The main PCI-E slot is shifted one down, so there is more space around the socket than in a number of other products. With a single heatsink, height can only become a problem with the involvement of super-massive CPU coolers.
An updated PWM controller manufactured by uPI Semiconductor uP9505 with the suffix S is used, the previous models had the capabilities of six-phase implementations, here, apparently, they did not deviate from the canons and introduced a stabilizer according to the 4 + 2 “phase” operation scheme. Four processor units are connected to auxiliary units, including two uP1911R (2 to 4 Phase PWM Extender for Multiphase Synchronous Buck Converter), which means that in the end we have eight channels for forming the CPU voltage. A pair of assemblies on the SOC Voltage lines do without additional elements – two channels come out. Ten elements from Vishay Intertechnology – SiC654 are soldered, which is less than in other status models of the manufacturer based on AMD B550. Complementing the VRM structure are traditional solid capacitors with a resource of five thousand hours of operation at elevated temperatures.
The quality of the pressure and the sufficiency of the area on all thermal pads do not cause any complaints.
At the back, I would like to note the appearance of a button necessary for afterburning a UEFI update from a flash drive, which previously remained the prerogative only for high-status models. The range of ports is all-encompassing and well in line with expectations from a modern motherboard. Comments can be made to the close location of the racks, which, theoretically, cannot avoid questions when connecting a number of products directly to the ports, and there should not be any problems with cables.
